Manchester United have come away from Old Trafford with yet another draw after a poor performance from the reds. Hull defended excellently as United struggled in the final third, missing big chances to kill the game off. The draw is the 6th at home this season and leaves the red devils 5 points a drift from 2nd place Tottenham.
United struggled to get into the game from the off, and looked off the pace up front. Mourinho brought in Marcus Rashford for his first start in the Premier League since the 27th November, dropping the in-form Martial. Rashford had a frustrating evening along with Henrik Mkhitaryan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic as Hull’s defence put up a heroic performance. Phil Jones was substituted on the 55th minute due to an injury picked up in the first-half.
Paul Pogba had the best chance of the first-half when Ibrahimovic’s back heel produced an excellent through ball for the Frenchman. Pogba should of put the chance away, but Man of the Match Jakupovic pulled off an excellent save. Jakupovic also pulled off a match-winning save to deny Juan Mata from 3 yards out, who was substituted on in the 62nd minute. United continued to push high up the pitch in search for a winner up until the 95th minute but were proven to be unsuccessful in front of goal. Hull didn’t threaten De Gea minus one chance that came through Markovic, who broke away from play and hit the post after David was beaten.
Tonight was a huge chance for Manchester United to close the gap on the top 4, all of whom dropped at least 2 points on Tuesday night. Instead, they remain 6th, 4 points behind 4th.
De Gea – N/A (Didn’t have much to do), Valencia – 6, Jones – 7, Rojo – 7, Blind – 4, Carrick – 4, Herrera – 6, Pogba – 6, Mkhitaryan – 4, Rashford – 5, Ibrahimovic – 4.
